SCHAFER FAMILY STUFF

I am Dennis and my grown sons are Ryan and Devin. I work for the City of Rochester and am an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 237, also here in Rochester, NH.  Both Ryan and Devin have been in Scouting at some level but are not anymore.

Special, Special, Special!

Devin is now the father of Andrew Jacob Schafer.  Click here to visit a web page for Andrew.

Bernie & Geraldine's 50th Anniversary Party

My Aunt Geraldine and Uncle Bernie were surprised by their daughters Shirley and Beverly on July 20, 2003 with a surprise 50th anniversary party.  Their actual anniversary date was in October but my cousins wanted to make sure it was a surprise and while people could gather at their camp on Great East Lake.  The weather was absolutely beautiful, a great day for this memorable event.

Here is a picture of Bernie and Geraldine cutting the cake.

1999 Family Camping

Our "long" weekend of August 27-30 at Clearwater Campground was a very good time.  There were 5 families as there were in 1998 with the 3 core families (Schafer, Doyle and Spignese) joined by 2 others from past years, the Wordel and Fraiser families.  The weather was fine and we had a very fun time.

Here's a picture of our campsite.

Schafer Family Reunion

My Grandfather and Grandmother Schafer had six children, Norma, Geraldine, Edward (my dad), Ernest, Robert and Joan.  Only two of these children, my Aunts Norma and Geraldine were still alive to be at a very successful family reunion on July 31, 1999.  My Aunt Norma and her husband, Uncle Tommy, have both since passed away.  The reunion was held at my Aunt Geraldine's and Uncle Bernie's (Moose) camp on Great East Lake in Wakefield, NH.  All of the first cousins from those six Schafer children were there along with our children.

Here is a picture of the host Chase's including my first cousins Shirley and Beverly.

Cog Railway

On August 8, 1998 Devin, his grandfather (my dad) and myself went up Mount Washington on the Cog Railway.  This was the first time for Devin going to the top of the mountain and the first time for me getting there via the railroad.  My dad passed away on September 26, 1998 so I am very glad the three of us did this trip.

Here is a picture of Devin at the very summit.

Here is a view of the area, notice how small the hikers look in comparison.

Here is a picture of the Halfway House taken on our way down.  The house is level but it seems impossible to believe while you're going by at a 25% grade (the steepest section is at 37%).
