Construction 2000Maybe all you'd really like to know is how things look when they're done. If that's the case, we have a couple of pictures for you right here.
The loft door is open because it's paint is drying. (You have to start somewhere.) If you consider the front of the barn, and suppose it's really a face, the teeth are where it regularly eats trucks and tractors. If you'd like to see how we built it, check out the page on barn raising. The little gray building, in the foreground of the photo above, is not the new woodshed, but our old tool shed. The tool shed was the first building at Brookfarm, and sat down close to the main road even before we cleared a site for the house. Now this 8 by 12 foot shed holds brush cutters and saws and greasy stuff. The faded pink message on the side of the tool shed is from our Town building inspector, who said it was okay to build a woodshed off to the left of this photo.
The woodshed was a little like a movie set at the time this picture was taken, since I hadn't yet painted the sides you can't see. (Carol painted the near side.) And there wasn't much wood in it. Also, it's missing the lattice that screens your eyes from the sight of loose lumber revealed as stub ends at the gable peak. Still and all, it looks pretty nice. Would you like to see how we built the woodshed? What's next on the list of things to build outside? You'd think we'd be done after ten years or so. But no. We still need a small bridge or two to help short people cross the several brooks that flow out of our hillside on their way to the pond below. Stay tuned. Edited 10/27/00 . |
