The Adventures of Decker the Gnome:

Soldan Keldriss

Verse 3

I awakened from my slumber, after a long night of noise.  Heading downstairs I noticed that Cahir and Gregol were talking,  Cahir was acting quite nervous and seemed to be on edge about something.  I soon found out what it was, as he quickly left from the room as he heard Soldan approach.  There is something more between those 2 that bothers me, call it an instintive feeling.  It was then that Soldan entered the room; a red ruffled tunic covering his somewhat thin frame. He came in with a nasty looking thug as well.  Something was up with this, and I didn't like it. The thug was speaking something about "the bearer gives up his claim at death... and that it would be so easy Soldan". Soldan returned the comment with a look of weariness: " As a last resort only, Bartith... I don't like defying the scriptures, no matter how important."  This I didn't like at all, and I decided, as they walked by a glaring Gregol, that I would keep an eye on Cahir and Soldan for Cahir's safety.  So as Gregol followed the two up the stairs and exchanged looks, I went out the door to Cahir's window. As I was about to scale the wall I heard Cahir scream " You bastard.. I'll kill you!"  I quickly threw up my rope under the sounds of the noises and scaled the wall as quickly as I could. When I got there the room was already a burst with the sounds of my comrades, who apparently were as nosy as I was.  Seeing that my comrades had the 2 outnumbered, I kept my advantage point just outside of the window, besides something was wrong with the situation, the party had made thier way into the room, but everybody looked confused, and Soldan had taken a wound in the leg.  It was then that they started to leave the room, except Aalaysia, who began to hug Cahir for a long time and making slight movements of the hand.  What was passed between the two I'm not sure, but the rouge in me told me that something had been passed between the two.  Prehaps the stone that Cahir had gotten had been passed between to her. After she left they began to talk again.  I also learned all that Cahir learned in that conversation and maybe then some.  Then Cahir drew his sword, for what reason I know, he was going to kill Soldan in cold blood.  Soldan rolled across the floor and produced a wand. As Cahir charged him Soldan let loose with a lightning bolt, letting loose a blast of thunder as well.  Suddenly I heard screaming coming from the hallway as I smashed through the window to save Cahir, both from his wrong doings as well as the blasts of Soldan. It was then that I gave away my "other skills" which I purposely kept secret ( and still do ),  I  advanced on Soldan begining to chant my spell.  Knife in hand ready in case it should fail, I advanced on him. Unfortunately the spell did fail, but my knife struck true.   Suddenly though the foul snake had grabbed my arm with hidden strength. Bitter words were crossed until Cahir then gave the fool the stone after he released me. As he turned to leave, the handle of the door dissolved off and in burst Aalaysia with Soldan's man behind her hitting her in the back with a large mace, but she didn't even flinch. She suddenly grabbed Cahir and jumped out of the window leaving me with Soldan and his goon.  Thankfully they were more interested in Aalaysia and Cahir than me, so they chased after him while I chased after them until I found Gregol lying in a heap on the floor.  I quickly went to assist him, but thankfully he was recovering on his own so I continued my chase.

Outside I saw somebody running towards the town's barn so I took chase after him with Gregol following.  As I chased after Soldan I heard him shout out: " Get ready t' ride all! They must die!" I charged forth and confronted Soldan about his true intent towards Cahir. Then a man dressed in baker's clothing tried to stop me pulling me back and covering my mouth.  Then Soldan had spoken a comment that really riled me up: "Get thyself to thy friend, Decker... it is the best ye art able to do. The baker countered with: "...you have not heard his tongue spoken since your grandfather was alive" and then he let forth his challenge: "Follower of Tarmeran, I challenge thee!" Soldan then added more to the mystery with: " Dulgos, is that what you are called now? How unusual this is, we both here, as well as the Bearer and the Guardian"  Whom is this Bearer and Guardian that they speak of... Cahir?

Combat then ensued between the two, the Baker changing form into a small creature with a short blade in hand.  Soldan had the obvious physical advantage, and began scoring several hits againist the baker, the baker buying himself some time leaped a fence and threw cow manure at Soldan.  The 2 got locked into a deathmatch on the ground with Soldan pressing his sword againist the man's throat.   Suddenly he disappeared.

Soldan a bit shocked, then began gathering his men as 2 towns folk began fighting in the streets.  Gregol soon broke that up.  I'm definitely not liking this place at all, and hope not to come back here anytime soon.

Me and Gregol then fled towards the woods in search of Cahir before Soldan and his men could find him first.  We quickly found him severely wounded in a small canopy of trees. He told us that he had hid Aalaysia in an entanglement of plants, for she had fallen from exhastion after rescuing him, and he had hidden her from harm.  So it was up to me to rescue her.  I quickly found where she hidden, sobbing quietly with her mouse Widget, and now I approach her with my skills in stealth, hidden in the shadows in case somebody is watching....
