The Adventures of Decker the Gnome

A Needless Death

Verse 20

A month has past since Dulgos passed along to me the stone which I believe will shape a new destiny for myself, prehaps this very world. The Sleeping Finch has remained quiet for the most part, the regulars coming in for drinks and such, the people who seem to admire the tales of my old party have stayed around, probably in hopes of tagging along for the journey I may have to take South with this stone.

The final day of the month had come, the day of the regular group meetings. The only new face at the meeting from the old party was Cerrannor, who stayed only a little while then went home to rest up for the journey it would appear we would be undertaking, as Dulgos did not show, though just before closing Kaduul did. Kaduul quickly made himself at home, taking a seat near the fire and dealt with the impoliteness of the would be adventurers. Though I do not trust him, I think I will allow him to accompany us for the time being, until I can determine where his intentions lie.

Events as they currently stand.

(Aka: game stopped in the middle of a fight where the fate of the Gnome lies in the balance)

It happened in the middle of night, without warning. Decker awoke from his bed to the sounds of rapid and loud movement within the dining room. He emerged from his room to discover Kaduul gazing intently at something outside the window. Around Kaduul the rag tag group of adventurers were stuggling to regain their composures as sleep still clung to their very being, as they peered out the window in an attempt to see what Kaduul's vision had already picked up. Kaduul summomed up the magic for a spell as he smashed his arm through the glass of the tiny tavern's window, striking 1 of 4 shadowy figures with an arch of lightning, as the door of the Sleeping Finch exploded open in a spray of wooden shards. As the door rocked upon it's final hinge before striking the ground, 3 figures all dressed in long green cloaks and carrying swords, darted into the dining area, one surrounded in a sort of soapy multi-colored bubble.

Decker emerged from his room again, this time with a short sword in his right hand, and a shield made of what appeared to be stone, strapped to his left arm, which he held as if it was as light as a shield of wooden make. Decker moved to awaken his sister Malin Je Nos from the guest room to the left of his own, as Sonerak and Kaduul moved to block the approach of the figures, as the rest began to withdraw to the kitchen area to escape out the back door.

Kaduul then summoned forth a magic scimitar to do battle againist the figures, and as he struck the bubble, both magics crackled and sputtered as both seemed surprised by the result. Kaduul then yelled for the group to withdraw, as Decker reinforced the order for all to withdraw as he moved to cover their retreat. Elendar discovered in the middle of the battle a small field mouse watching the bubble with a mesmerized look on its face, when he attempted to pick it up, he found that he could not, it was then that 2 cloaked figures came in from the back door, and upon seeing the group assembled within the kitchen, drew steel, in preparation to attack.

Then Decker brought his stone shield to his front and began a crazed charge towards the figure with the multi-hewed bubble, but before he was able to hit, Kaduul tackled him to the ground and threw him towards the back door, losing his sword in the process. It was then that the bubble touched him. It started at his foot, then worked it's way up his body before his eyes could betray his shock and fear, leaving behind only a fine powder in place of the pirate mage that once was Kaduul.
