Ancient History The Time of Turmoil Part 5: The Eradication Wars (War of the One) The world was once again at war because of dragonkind, though this time with their foul creations. Reigning terror from the northlands where they were driven off to, the evil humanoids began a campaign stretching southwards across the lands under the leadership of a Wizard follower of the god Mendelth that they called "The One". The One was served by 2 generals, a warrior by the name of Marlock, and a wizard by the name of Ecimon. Both generals loyalty was unquestioned by The One, and both were known for their dark hearts. Marlock’s history is well known as the second greatest dragonslayer in the known world, though he was not a slayer of chromatic dragons, but of Metallic Dragons. Ecimon’s history is less known as Marlock’s or The One. It was said that he sought an artifact that would give him immortality, and The One for service in his armies promised him this artifact. With his great armies The One swept across the ancient elven lands killing those that opposed him, and subjugating those that would follow him. The 3 races united together in attempts to stop the wizard’s armies’ push further south, stopping his advance south of the Flaming Plains. The One’s army was not as strong as normally encountered, and the 3 races soon found out why. Scouts reported a second army had emerged from the left side of the Flaming Plains heading for a location to the south. The 3 races split their army, leaving a portion of their army behind to deal with the decoy army as they pressed to catch up with the main army. The army however was very surprised when they found The One’s army stopped and ready for battle at the remains of an old stone tomb. There a furious battle took place with the 3 races army overpowering the weakened army over the course of a 4 day conflict. When it was apparent that the battle would be theirs on the 5th day a terrible eruption came forth from the old tomb. The One had managed to open a portal into the Underworld, domain of Mendelth, and had let forth tremendous evil upon the world. Where the Verdant Plains once stood billowed forth a great grey mist which cut a swath of withering plant life and dying Andarians, Elves, Dway, and humanoids in its wake, as their bodies decayed and rose from death to serve their new master. With his new army of undead, The One began the second part of his campaign: Destruction of the followers of Aslynn, as Ecimon pushed his way further south into the lands of the humans and elves, and Marlock guarded the entrance to the underworld. Ecimon’s army marched southward into the lands known as Norin where he reigned havoc on the lands. The Grand Wizard Telldon of elven nobility, with the assistance of a neophyte druidess named Selwynd Stargazer, would ultimately defeat him atop Zubin mountain, where it is said that Ecimon discovered the artifact known as the Darklighter staff. In magical combat, Telldon would ultimately defeat Ecimon by destroying the magical staff thus killing himself and Ecimon in the process. However at that time The One had managed to convert two Red Dragons to his cause by the names of Scrag and Bloodmist. Together the 3 would ultimately destroy all of Aslynn’s temples, followers, and the goddess herself in the final battle known as Aslynn’s fall (documented separately). Scrag however was defeated in the conflict by the goddess before her death. Not all was lost for the land though. A dragon by the name of Falcrum assembled an army of Paladins and imbued them with specials powers, and ultimately destroyed The One in the temple of Mendelth atop a solitary mountain, thus ending the War of the One and heralding forth The Time of Healing.
