The Adventures of Decker the Gnome

Into the Den of the Lion

Verse 17

As I took care of my empty stomach, Binkley rowed us towards the shore from which the unknown ship came from, it took all night and most of the morning to accomplish as the sea was againist us, but at least I got some sleep and cookbook reading in before we set shore on our next island of investigation. The island was inhabited by a strange multitude of odd looking, black animals with large webbed looking feet on short legs and long glistening black bodies. Some of them also had long tusks nearly as long as my legs. They reminded me of Giant Cave Slugs ,though with tusks, I had the misfortune of encountering once back home. Nasty ugly things if you ask me... all covered in slime and gross stuff. But these ones weren't as bad, but I wasn't about to get too close anyways.

We made our way up the beach to the edge of the forest despite the fact that I kept nagging them to follow the beach where a dock would be, but alais they didn't listen to me until we ended up going a few hundred paces into the thick jungle like forest and became overburdened by bugs... then of course it sunk in. Sometimes I wonder about these topsiders. As we were about to leave the jungle Elendar stopped with "Decker don't move" he then approached me staring at my forehead then gave it a swift TWACK, knocking the senses out of me for a moment, claiming that I had a bug on my head, while everybody laughed. I didn't find any bug guts on me, so needless to say, somebody is going to get somebody back.

After travelling up the beach for about a half an hour or so. We came across a natural cliff in which down at the bottom was a large dock and a small structure. Looks like we found our Regilian outpost. Though today I think my companions are suffering from some sort of sea sickness or something, because they wanted to build a fire on top of the cliff, right above the camp below. Now granted it was lunch time, but campfires tend to make smoke, which usually can attract things.. but of course no body was in the mood to listen to me so I took a trip down to the docks to check out the area. Tol the halfling desided to join me, following me down the cliff after I was at the bottom. It wasn't too long until I found out what we were up againist. Tol found himself face to face with 5 Regilians armed with bows and sabres. He attempted to get out of his situation by asking "Is this the way to the General Store?" I almost laughed from the safety of the brush while they began to surround him. Taunting him and asking him whether short fly likes to fly or not, as they looked over the cliff towards the water. I sent a little communication to Binkley at that point letting him know that Tol got himself into trouble and required help. I then moved into a position where I could effectively cause some damage when Tol needed it. Tol then pulled out Elendar's dagger and took a swipe at the Regilian leader, shocking him as he jumped back avoiding the dagger. Suddenly the trees near Tol rustled as a gunt came from one of the Regilians to his left,as a short sword emerged from his mid-section. Decker had joined the fraw. Binkley's timing was of course perfect as he came crashing down the cliff in a full run distracting the Regilians as Tol made a run for some catapults near the docks. As one of the Regilians ran off, I squared off with the Regilian that I had attacked from behind as the leader went after Tol, and the other 2 started chasing after Binkley who took cover in the trees. Tol managed to make it over to the catapult bunker as I scored a minor hit on the arm to the Regilian that I was attacking, while Binkley took an arrow in the shoulder, as my attacker slashed my leg drawing blood and ruining my good pants. Rain (formerly known as Aalaysia) appeared then somewhere out of nowhere, but at a good time as usual, bow in hand. She loosed 2 arrows hitting the leader in the leg with one, as the other one went astray, as I slammed my short sword into my enemy shoving it up to the hilt in his mid-section, as his vacant eyes looked down to his wound before he fell to the ground. I then moved to assist Binkley throwing 2 of my throwing knives at one of his attackers, striking him clean in the arm with one, as the other one went wide. Binkley then slashed his partner with his enchanted sword as Rain's arrows struck true into the leader, bringing him to the ground and over the cliff's edge. Binkley then finished off his attacker, bashing him in the head, as the other one turned towards me, then began to fled.
