Michael McCarthy born in Ireland died at the age of 65 years on 1/30/1860 buried 2/6/1860 St. Famile RC cemetery Bathurst, NB Canada Married (1) (This hasn't been confirmed yet, but I have found a Michael McCarthy in Limerick, Co Limerick Ireland married to Catherine Ryan, having a son John b 1821. In Michael's Will he mentions a son John, and a John McCarthy bc 1820 shows up in Bathurst about the same time as Michael does, and marries Ellen Dempsey in 1851. Ellen b 1829 in Bathurst, is the daughter of John Dempsey b 1814, and Mary Brean (sp) b 1801 in Ireland Married (2)Catherine Reagan (Unless this is the same Catherine just the last name mis-spelled) (Catherine's last name is spelled differently each time it is written) Children, William (M) b.11/13/1830 Salmon Beach NB Canada bapt 11/15/1830 St. Famile Michael (M) b.1/16/1833 Salmon Beach NB. John b.cir. 1805 Ireland (I think may have been Michael's brother) m. Mary Ann Butler (or Burke, or Mullen)b. 1811 children Mary (F) b. 5/12/1845 bapt 5/18/1845 St. Famile Bathurst, NB Canada, Florence (M) b.10/28/1946 bapt.11/9/1846 St. Famile, Margaret b. 1847, John b. 1850, James b. 1852, Ellen b. 1855, and Ann b. 1859. On the Baptism records of Mary, and Florence I'm certain that Mary's last name is Butler. I don't have copies of the other children's baptism records, so I can't compare those. The person originally who found me the other children of John, and Mary is convinced that Mary's last name was Mullen, and I can see from the records, where the name could be mistaken for Mullen especially on Mary's baptism, but if you compare the way the missionary wrote his "B"s, and "M"s, it becomes apparent that the first letter is a "B", and on Florence's baptism in 1846 it is definitely Butler. I have found a John McCarthy marring a Mary Butler in 1810 Killarney, but if this is the same John, and Mary Butler, there must be a second John, & Mary, because they are still having children in Bathurst in 1859. Also I have record of a tombstone at St. Famile in Bathurst for a John McCarthy died 1/11/1875 at 70, wife Mary died 8/6/1883 at 72. That would make him b. 1805, and her 1811. That would make it impossible for them to be the same John, and Mary getting married in 1810. So for now I am calling them John, and Mary Butler, and John, and Mary Mullen. It is interesting to not also that the census information for John, and Mary still having children in 1859, having a daughter Mary born 1845. Thus either they both had daughters Mary b 1845, or it is the same family. This would mean that either Mary Butler, & Mary Mullen are the same person, or John married a second wife still named Mary, or that they are al the same, and the Killarney John, and Mary Butler are different from this John, and Mary.
John McCarthy b 1821 Ellen Dempsey b.1829 children James (M) b.5/30/1853 bapt.6/27/1853 St. Famile, Mary Ann (F) b.6/9/1855 bapt.9/9/1855 St. Famile, Catherine b. 1858, Agnes b. 1860, Thomas b. 1861, Daniel (M) b.8/26/1863 bapt.8/27/1863 St. Famile, William b. 1865, Emiline b. 1870, and Albert b. 1873.
Also showing up in the Bathurst area about 1825 is Catherine McCarthy b. c. 1825 m. Thomas Geord (sp) in Bathurst Michael's third wife Catherine, Florence Francis (Frank), & Thomas then emigrate to New Limerick, Maine, and purchase land starting 1874. Michael's son (I think) Patrick b.1822 shows on the 1850 census of New Limerick, Maine, and Catherine shows up on the 1880 census for New Limerick with Frank, & his family, and Thomas shows with his family. Patrick McCarthy b1822 m Catherine Kelly in New Limerick, Maine has land on the County road. Francis in New Limerick, Maine married Rose Corrigan daughter of Thomas Corrigan (who also shows up for the first time in New Limerick on the 1850 census), & Mary Travers, has children Frederick L.b1874, Elizabeth (Lydia) b1877, Michael E. b1879, & Francis Winfield, & twin sister Theresa Winifred b1882. Thomas McCarthy in New Limerick, Maine marries Sara Bradley daughter of Roger Bradley, and Bridget Mulherin b1815 both of Ireland, and they have children. Sara's sister Catherine (also spelled Katherine) married Owen Hannigan b8/9/1844 son of Owen Hannigan, & Anne Hart bcir1815 Ireland (who also show up in New Limerick starting with the 1860 census along with John, & Margaret Hogan, & John, & Margaret McCluskey b1810 Ireland. I need help finding where in Ireland these people came from, and any information about their emigration.
