HOME>01/27/04 - Meredith and Merrimac
It's January 27, 2004... I'm working my job and wondering what's going on out there. People are streaming into the numerous polling stations around the state. Dixville Notch and Harts Location have already counted and reported their votes.

A new location for voting this year, though it's unclear whether it will become permanent: a function room at The Chase House on Route 3, overlooking Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Some "visibility" people. A frozen Meredith Bay in the background. If you look closely, you can see a bob house to the left.

Barbara making sure voters remember a certain "cut above" candidate.

The interview in front of the polling place.

What it's all about.

About 9:45pm at in Merrimack. Lou D'Allesandro on stage with active volunteers to the rear. At this point, the numbers are in.

In the crowd in front of the stage, Lacey speaking into his recorder.

Senator Edwards arrives and makes his way to the stage.

Here comes the next President of the United States!

New Hampshire has been very good to a visitor from North Carolina. It's also been very good to two of its neighbors and I congratulate Senator Kerry and Governor Dean.

We went from five to 32 percent in a strong second place finish in Iowa. We're very proud of that!

And here in New Hampshire, 10 days ago, we were 20 points behind General Clark and look at what we've done! This momentum is extraordinary!

And now we're going to take this energy and momentum that we saw in Iowa, this extraordinary energy and momentum that we have seen in New Hampshire and we're going to take it right through February 3rd and we're gonna' see great victories on February 3rd. Yes we are.

Elizabeth and Cate Edwards

I want to take just a minute and thank the people of New Hampshire for welcoming me into their homes, onto their Main Streets, to the over 100 Town Hall Meetings I've had here.

And thank you to the 100s of volunteers that have come from all across this country to spread this message of hope and optimism. Thank you. Thank you, all of you.

Together, we can do it. Yes we can. Yes we can.

A few words with the press and off to South Carolina.
