Today's Schools...Tomorrow's
Future.
The Holiday Season offers an opportunity to express sincere appreciation
for the contribution you have made to the success of our schools.
THANK YOU...
and may your Holidays be happy ones. Sincerely,
A new community school Website for SAU 48 schools is now on line to provide
information and assistance to members of the community. Web address:
www.PemiBaker.com/school.html).
"The Website, which began as an effort to create an online Career Center has grown into much more," stated Superintendent John True. "Now we are looking toward not only providing career information but also using this site as a means for keeping members of the community informed about all aspects of our local schools."
"Students and non-students who visit the site will find a career center
that provides them with testing to assess their interests and then guides
them through the process of discovering how to follow those dreams."
Said assistant Superintendent Mark Halloran. "This is not just for
those students nearing graduation," Halloran stressed, "it is
intended to provide guidance for people of all aged, in keeping with the
School To Work philosophy."
For parents or guardians of school age children, the Website provides a
help center for homework as well as a wealth of on line resources for research,
from encyclopedias to specialty sites on anatomy and auto mechanics.
In addition to the career and research oriented aspects of the site, there
are mailing list groups for every school in the SAU 48 area, allowing interested
individuals to share their thoughts and ideas. And just in case you thought
this was all work oriented, there is also plenty to do just for fun...take
a virtual tour of Disneyland, take a silly IQ test to determine if you are
a budding Romeo or Juliet, explore the pyramids, or solve a new mystery
each week.
Space for the site has been donated by PemiBaker.com,
the area's new community based Website, and WorldPath
Internet Services. PemiBaker.com will provide no cost maintenance of
the site in the future.
Superintendent True expressed his hope that this site would become an on
line gathering place for those interested in our local schools. He encouraged
visitors to the site to email with recommendations for additions and improvements
to the site. 'We are very pleased,' said True, 'with the quality of this
site but it must always be seen as a work in progress...changing to suit
the needs of our schools and the community as a whole.'
Appreciation doesn't
depreciate. Make a deliberate
effort to acknowledge
the efforts of others.

"Russell
Times" -- Up and Running!
With the help of Alice and Wayne King of Rumney, Russell School obtained
a $569 grant from the Pemi Baker School To Work Partnership to start the
Russell Times newsletter. Susan Clark, who teaches second grade at
the school, is coordinating the production of the paper and has been working
with students, teachers and volunteers to make it possible.
"We want this newsletter to be a helpful communications
tool for students, parents, and all Rumney residents," says Mrs. Clark.
"We'll make it available in town as well as at school so that everyone
knows what's going on at Russell."
From grades one through eight, students filled out job applications for
various positions available on the newspaper staff. These young people are
now involved with the newspaper business in areas such as reporting, writing,
photography, word processing, artwork, graphics, advertising, production,
distribution, and sales.
The Russell Times will be a monthly publication, and the
next issue will be available before the holidays.
WELCOME!
We are pleased to announce that William G. York has joined
the Pemi-Baker School To Work Partnership's team of consultants! Bill York--known
to so many of us for his significant contributions to journalism, as the
Political Director for MAGIC94FM WCRF/WMXR and the General Manager of the
Journal Transcript Newspapers--is now helping the Partnership by connecting
PRHS students and teachers with businesses throughout our region, as part
of our continuing STW initiative. His roots within both business and education
arenas in SAU 48 communities and beyond, are just what we need to expand
opportunities for students to have real work experiences and support for
exploring various career options as part of their education program.
