Captain Cherry's Portrait
After I put our Cherry's Company web site up last year I heard from some of the Captain's descendants. We made an exchange of information concerning the Captain's military record and biographical info. The most exciting thing I learned was that the family had two images of the Captain.

They appear to be two versions of the same portrait. One could be a copy of the other or they both could be copies of an oil portrait that was said to exist at one time. (It is said the oil portrait ended up in a museum, possibly in Ohio. Please e-mail me if you have any information. Bill S.)
In the portrait the Captain appears to be 35-45 years old, which would date it to 1790-1800. He also seems be prematurely grey. I have learned that some family members say he had red hair, which would explain the fact that it went grey prematurely.
I commissioned a local artist to do an oil painting based on the two small portraits. The results far exceeded my expectations!
