Oil Filter Riser Tube

 

I recently had to make a replacement gasket for under the oil filter housing. I thought while I had the housing off, I'd measure up the oil filter tube. I found mine pretty pitted but still serviceable. One of these days I may have to make a replacement. The tube is made from 1/4" OD steel tubing. Here's what it looks like:

The end that goes in the filter has a hole in the end and a cross hole just below the end. The particulars are shown here:

You can see how badly pitted mine is. The bright spots near the tip are where I smoothed some of the pit edges with a file. I did that to minimize any catching on the packed media in the oil filter when installing it.

I don't know how the tube is attached to the housing. It appears to be pressed in. I also don't know how deep into the housing it goes. I don't want to disturb it at this time since it is working fine right now. I am concerned I would wind up damaging it during removal.
